Aepc Highlights India-uk Textile Potential At Bharat Tex 2025 Roadshow

The Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) showcased promising opportunities in the India-UK textile trade at the Bharat Tex 2025 roadshow in London. The event, which drew over 100 industry leaders from both nations, aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for collaboration.

Mr Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), emphasized the potential for increased trade between India and the UK at the Bharat Tex 2025 roadshow held in London from November 27 to 29. The event showcased India's burgeoning textile industry and provided a platform for both nations to explore sustainable and innovative partnerships.

India has solidified its position as a key textile and apparel supplier for the UK. In 2023, Indian exports to the UK reached a significant milestone of USD 1.2 billion, capturing a 6.14% share of the UK market. Moreover, ready-made garment (RMG) exports to the UK experienced a notable 9.4% increase during the April-October 2024-25 period compared to the previous year, according to the AEPC Chairman.

The Bharat Tex 2025 roadshow united over 100 key industry players, including representatives from leading fashion brands, retail chains, and research organizations. Notable attendees included Shubhra, Trade Advisor from the Ministry of Textiles, Mr Premal Udani, Chairman of the Export Promotion Committee at AEPC, and Mr Roger Gilmartin, Senior Associate at Gherzi Consulting.

Ms Shubhra, Trade Advisor from the Ministry of Textiles, highlighted India's commitment to sustainable textile production and the shared values with the UK. Government initiatives like the PLI Scheme and PM MITRA Parks are driving growth and innovation in the industry. The strong foundation of shared values creates ample opportunities for further cooperation between the two nations.

The representative also met with Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Mr Vikram Doraiswamy, to discuss trade India and the UK explored the possibility of a free trade agreement to further facilitate textile trade between the two countries. UK textile companies showed significant interest in deepening their engagement with India's thriving textile industry.
