Gujarat is aggressively positioning itself as the frontrunner in India's textile revolution, with its ambitious plans for the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Navsari taking significant strides. The state government has finalized the master plan and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the park, strategically located near Surat, a well-established textile hub.
Mamta Verma, Principal Secretary of the Industries and Mines Department, has hailed the PM MITRA Park as a "game-changer" for the textile sector. The focus is on creating a world-class manufacturing hub with integrated infrastructure, sustainable practices, and advanced technologies. The park, spanning over 1,142 acres in Vansi village, Navsari, aims to encompass the entire textile value chain, from spinning and weaving to processing and garment manufacturing, all within a single location. This integrated approach is expected to significantly reduce logistics costs and enhance the competitiveness of the Indian textile industry.
The development of crucial link infrastructure for the park is progressing rapidly. A dedicated water supply source has been secured, and GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) is constructing a 65 MLD water supply line, with over a third of the work already completed, making it the largest water supply plan among all the greenfield PM MITRA Parks. The park will also benefit from excellent connectivity to major markets via the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai Dedicated Freight Corridor and its proximity to the Surat airport and Hazira port.
The PM MITRA Park in Gujarat is projected to attract substantial investments, estimated to be around ?10,000 crore, and generate approximately 300,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The presence of plug-and-play facilities will significantly reduce the time for businesses to commence operations. The park is expected to house both large domestic and international textile units, further boosting the state's and India's textile manufacturing capabilities and export potential.
Complementing the PM MITRA initiative is Gujarat's recently launched textile policy, which emphasizes sustainable growth, innovation, man-made fibers (MMF), technical textiles, and eco-friendly production technologies, aligning with the National Technical Textiles Mission. This policy aims to create a conducive environment for the textile sector's advancement.
Gujarat already boasts a strong foundation in the textile sector, with 13 operational textile parks supported by significant central government grants. These parks house over 550 operational units and have generated over 30,000 jobs. The addition of the PM MITRA Park is expected to further solidify Gujarat's position as a dominant force in India's textile landscape and contribute significantly to the nation's global textile ambitions.
With its strategic location, robust infrastructure development, supportive policies, and existing industrial strength, Gujarat is poised to spearhead India's textile revolution through the development of its PM MITRA Park.
