Chhattisgarh's Textile Sector Set For Major Growth With Cmai Alliance

Chhattisgarh is aggressively pursuing its goal of becoming India's leading textile and apparel manufacturing hub, evidenced by a significant Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) at the FAB Show 2025 in Mumbai today; this agreement, witnessed by key industry figures and policymakers, will facilitate the establishment of a cutting-edge Textile and Apparel Facilitation Centre in Raipur, representing a major step forward in the state's industrial development strategy.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, heading a high-level delegation, passionately urged textile entrepreneurs to invest in Chhattisgarh, highlighting its unique advantages and proclaiming that the newly formed partnership with CMAI would revolutionize the state's economy by establishing a complete textile value chain ecosystem.

Coupled with the central government's recent ?271 crore approval for a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus in Nava Raipur, poised to be a center for design innovation and textile technology, this announcement underscores Chhattisgarh's commitment to the sector. Chief Minister Sai also emphasized the state's deep-rooted textile heritage, especially the valuable kosa silk from Bastar and Surguja, noting its significant potential for global recognition and stating that with the support of institutions like NIFT and CMAI, Chhattisgarh is ready to elevate its traditional textiles to international markets while simultaneously developing advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Chhattisgarh's textile vision strategically blends the preservation of its rich heritage with the adoption of cutting-edge technology, a focus bolstered by a revamped industrial policy offering unparalleled incentives. Chief Minister Sai emphasized the implementation of over 350 reforms aimed at achieving "speed of doing business," including an unprecedented 252% capital reimbursement for investments over ?100 crore creating 1,000 local jobs – a first in India's textile industry – alongside specialized packages for units in tribal regions and customized support for MSMEs, illustrating the government's dedication to inclusive industrial development.

Chhattisgarh presents a strong case for textile investors due to its strategic advantages, including ample water resources, consistent power supply, central location offering logistical ease, and enhanced connectivity via the ?48,000 crore railway modernization and the future Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway, complemented by upgraded cargo facilities at Raipur Airport. Furthermore, its focus on human resource development, with institutions like IIT, IIM, and the upcoming NIFT, alongside upgraded ITIs providing specialized textile training, ensures a skilled workforce. Chief Minister Sai's exploration at the Fab Show of integrating traditional crafts with modern manufacturing highlights the government's vision for a distinctive textile ecosystem blending heritage and modernity. The presence of a high-powered delegation, including key officials, emphasizes the administration's commitment to this transformation, positioning Chhattisgarh to attract substantial investments, generate numerous jobs, and gain global recognition in the textile sector through its innovative policies, infrastructure strengths, and rich textile heritage, potentially establishing a benchmark for industrial development across India.
