Major Infrastructure Boost for PM MITRA Parks to Accelerate Textile Industry Growth

The Indian government is stepping up infrastructure development around its flagship PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks, with state governments initiating works worth ₹2,160.17 crore to improve external infrastructure up to the park entrances, the Ministry of Textiles informed Parliament.

According to the ministry’s statement, ₹564.72 crore has already been spent on developing key infrastructure elements around the seven PM MITRA parks across various states. These early investments aim to ensure that the parks are well-connected to highways, utilities and logistics networks, making them ready for industry participation and scaling operations.

About PM MITRA Parks Initiative

Launched under the government’s vision to transform India’s textile manufacturing ecosystem, the PM MITRA parks are designed to integrate the entire textile value chain — from spinning and weaving to processing, apparel manufacturing, design and exports — within world-class industrial parks. These parks are expected to attract both domestic and foreign investments, create direct and indirect employment, and significantly raise exports of textile and apparel products.

Each park operates under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) structure formed jointly by the central and respective state governments, ensuring coordinated execution, infrastructure provision and investor support. Development Capital Support (DCS) and Competitive Incentive Support (CIS) schemes are also available to help build park infrastructure and encourage early manufacturing units.

Strategic Importance of Connectivity and External Works

The newly initiated infrastructure works focus on improving roads, power systems, water supply lines and logistic corridors that link the parks to major highways, freight routes and urban centers, enabling seamless movement of raw materials and finished goods. Better connectivity is expected to reduce operating costs and enhance competitiveness for park-based industries.

Experts say enhancing external infrastructure will help the parks attract major manufacturers and supply chain partners, especially in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and others, which are positioning themselves as textile hubs due to existing industry strengths and supportive policies.

Long-Term Growth and Employment Potential

The PM MITRA parks are projected to generate lakhs of jobs — both directly within the parks and indirectly through associated logistics, services and ancillary industries. In addition to boosting manufacturing output, this initiative aims to reinvigorate local economies, enhance skill development and increase export competitiveness in global markets.

With central and state governments working closely on external infrastructure, industry analysts expect the parks to attain operational readiness faster and attract substantial investments from global textile players seeking efficient, integrated manufacturing bases in India.
